During the Second World War served as a warehouse for storage of larger quantities of food as well during the Berlin blockade the port served as a distribution station for goods of airlift. After the end of the blockade supplies were still stored here in order to be prepared against a renewed constriction of roads.
During the period of National Socialism , the Ullsteinhaus was renamed Deutsches Haus because the Ullstein family name was Jewish.
