The Amerika Haus, just near Zoologischer Garten, was an institution of the divided Germany, used at the beginning as passport office and then developed in a cultural center for the German/US exchange.
After Die Wende the building was returned to Germany by the US authorities and starting from October 2014 it hosts the C/O Berlin, which has renewed the building and just won the award of the Bund Deutscher Architekten BDA Berlin for it.
The inside space for the exhibitions is modular and it is changing from time to time. I had the opportunity to visit it during the great exhibition of Salgado "Genesis".
On the website of C/O Berlin is it also possible to read the full Chronology of the building.
